Flushing born naval officer Lt Jonathan Eastburn, commanding officer of the patrol vessel HMS Ranger had the honour of conveying HRH The Princess Royal aboard his ship during the Battle of Jutland commemorations in Scapa Flow.
Accompanying The Princess Royal was the newly appointed First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Philip Jones KCB ADC.
One of eight P2000 Inshore Patrol Ships present at the ceremony, HMS Ranger proudly flew from her masthead the Personal Standard of the HRH The Princess Royal as she steamed past the Type 23 frigate HMS Kent and FGS Schleswig-Holstein both of which fired 21 gun salutes.
Ranger's normal duties include a wide range of Fleet tasking both in UK waters and abroad; one of her main roles is to provide training to the University of Sussex Royal Naval Unit (URNU) to which she is affiliated. She is based in Portsmouth.
Jonathan, aged 27, is the elder son of Mr and Mrs David Eastburn of Flushing, and attended Flushing School before moving on to Penair School, Truro, and Christ's Hospital School, Horsham. He graduated in Physics from Exeter University in 2010.
