The new headteacher of Mullion School has an ambition to make sure every child gets the education they deserve.

Wayne Randle, 39, said he was “over the moon” at his appointment, describing his first week at the school as “brilliant”.

He said: “Everything has gone really, really well. The students and staff are really responsive to what I’ve said. I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the term.”

Mr Randle comes to Mullion after six years at Redruth School, where he was sole deputy head.

He said had fell in love with the school on his first visit, when he met with staff and looked around before applying.

He told the Packet: “I’ve always been ambitious to be a headteacher, but it had to be the right school for me.

“I just knew the ethos of the school and approach the school had is one that matched my own – being inclusive, where everyone counts.

“I was happy to apply for the job and over the moon when I got it.”

Mr Randle said his ambition was to make sure every child got the best education they could from Mullion School.

“What I’m looking to do is constantly develop and progress; ensure that we don’t every stand still, and make sure we’re providing the best education,” he said.

“We’ll do our absolute best to make sure everyone in the school comes out with what they deserve to get.”

He stressed he had no intention to “fix things that aren’t broken” and would take the time to look at the school and speak with staff, students and parents before introducing any changes.

Mr Randle trained at the University of St Mark & St John (Marjon) and then worked in various schools in Essex.

He and his wife took the decision to move back to the westcountry when they started a family, prompting Mr Randle to take up the post at Redruth.

He lives in Illogan with his wife Lucy and their two children, eight-year-old Emily and five-year-old Ben.

He is passionate about sport and being outdoors, adding: “I like to dabble with surfing, but I’m not very good at it!”

Sport is something that he will making sure gets promoted in the school.
