Poppy sellers from Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose took a well deserved pat on the back, after presenting a cheque to the Royal British Legion recently.
Their grand total from collections at supermarkets in the town and across the Air Station throughout November came to £1898.24. Chief Petty Officer Barney Scott who co-ordinated the Culdrose teams was pleased and overwhelmed by the generosity of those who contributed.
“We collected more than usual, but we hope that this will increase to an even higher amount next year”, said Barney Scott. “The teams from Culdrose raised just less than £2000 – it was a team from across the Air Station which collected at supermarkets across the town of Helston.”
The final total collected from the Helston and surrounding community collection points was £21,000 & 70p.
Barney added, “I urge others to get involved in collecting for the Poppy Appeal. It is really important to remember the fallen and put something back. The Royal British Legion does a tremendous job.”
