St Stythians Male Voice Choir’s presentation night was attended by about 70 choristers and their wives/partners.

Choir chairman, Garnet Martin, presented Adrian Rowe with certificates and an engraved glass award for completing an incredible 50 years as a member of St Stythians MVC and the Cornwall Federation of Male Voice Choirs.

A presentation was also made to Carol Uren, on behalf of her father, Desmond Barrett, for the same 50 years’ service with St Stythians MVC. Sadly Des passed away earlier this month, but not before learning he was to receive the award. Ivan Shipman also received a certificate acknowledging his 10 years’ service with the choir.

Vice-chairman, John Houldsworth, then introduced Joan Dower, whose husband David had been a staunch member of St Stythians MVC for many years and who sadly passed away last year. Joan presented a new cup, the David Dower Memorial Cup, for the year’s highest attendance, to Garnet Martin who had notched up 98 per cent attendance. He had won this award on five previous occasions.

The evening concluded with choir members doing “what they like best” - singing. Anyone wanting to get involved with the choir is invited to attend a practice session which take place on Tuesday nights between 7.45pm and 9.30pm, in the schoolroom at Stithians Methodist Church (TR3 7AN).
