Gweek Pantoloons 17th production, which takes to the stage next week, is an adaptation of The Emperor's New Clothes which has been written by Tim Ashley and directed by Brian Toney.

The action takes place in and around the Palace of the Emperor (played by Tim Ashley) who berates all around him, including his daughter Abigail (Katie Richards). He spends most of the people’s taxes on fine clothes, which are designed by Juan (Terry Lander) and made by Dame Carmen Ellis (Mike Lander) in the premises of Mr Dickie (Morgan Tart) and Mr Tailes (Joe Lander).

We meet the sly would-be tailors, Mr Needle (Karen Monhemius) and his accomplice Fred (Rhiannah Tart), who offer to make the Emperor a fine “birthday suit” for his birthday parade. We also meet many other colourful characters en route, many of whom are youngsters, making this show suitable for all age groups, with audience participation actively encouraged.

The bright and colourful scenery was created by Barry and Cath Tart and Jamie Richards, with a range of costumes produced by Sue Toney and Cath Tart and lighting by Russ Bibby.

Performances take place at Gweek Village Hall from next Thursday (March 5) to Saturday with shows at 7pm |each evening plus an additional 2pm Saturday matinee. There will be a colouring competition for the children, refreshments and ice cream will be served, and a beer and wine bar will be open from one hour before curtain up and during the interval.

Following the final show on Saturday evening, the Gweek Inn Trophies (or GITS) will be presented at the Black Swan, to which all are invited. These are trophies originally sponsored by the Gweek Inn, to encourage the talent of those taking part in this production while maintaining the fun elements of participating in the show.

Tickets for the panto cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for under 14s and are available from Gweek Premier Shop, The Black Swan, from Brian Toney on 221652 or the gweekpantoloons website. Tickets will also be available on the door for each performance.
