Community services run by Peninsula Community Health in the Penzance area will be moving to new locations at the end of March, bringing care closer to patients in the west.

The new purpose built Mounts Bay Surgery located in Sainsbury’s, Penzance, will now be home to a variety of services including the Continence Clinic, Stroke Rehabilitation Clinic and some podiatry services.

Just off the A30, the Mounts Bay Surgery is a satellite GP service shared by the three local GP practices – Rosemellyn, Alverton and Sunnyside and provides a convenient location for clinical services, boasting an onsite café and pharmacy, as well as free parking for both abled and disabled patients.

From Wednesday, April 1, Mounts Bay will also welcome a new Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy (MSK) Service for patients with back or neck pain.

Patients must be referred by their GP and will be offered a prompt appointment for assessment, advice and treatment with one of Peninsula Community Health’s highly qualified MSK Specialist Physiotherapists.

Musculoskeletal therapy manager, Maria Stickland, commented: “We are delighted to be working within Mounts Bay Surgery at Sainsbury's Penzance and to be offering high quality specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy to the population of Penzance and surrounding areas. We are happy to accept referrals from any GPs for patients with back or neck pain.''

Rehabilitation Groups and the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Group will be bringing support to a more convenient location, by holding sessions at the Penzance Leisure Centre. At the site there is a range of recreation activities provided by Parkwood Leisure, along with disabled parking and an onsite café.

Specialist equipment for rehabilitation will be available at the leisure centre and it is hoped that patients will feel comfortable continuing leisure activities onsite once their treatment has been completed.

The Community Rehabilitation Team will also be moving into new accommodation at the Old Court House, Penzance, which is located conveniently to both the Bellair Health Office and three GP surgeries on Alverton Terrace.

It is hoped that patients suffering with leg ulcers will be able to be seen at Bellair Health Office, Penzance, but this will not commence until some minor refurbishment work has been completed. Patients who are currently undergoing treatment for their leg ulcers in the Penzance area will be notified once this has been completed.

Ally Hardman from Peninsula Community Health said: “This is a great example of integrated working in the community with our local health facility providers and joint partnership working with the GP's who own the Court House and have been very supportive in accommodating the community team, and the three practices which operate Mounts Bay Surgery. We hope the community will feel the benefit of having existing and new services provided nearer to them.”

Full details of where clinics are held and the services provided by Peninsula Community Health are available on its website www.peninsulacommunityhealth.co.uk.

Patients will be informed of clinic locations in their appointment letter, however members of the public who might be concerned about the relocation of services can contact Peninsula Community Health’s Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0300 330 1444.
