Councillors are calling on the people of Penryn to help them shape the future development of the town and the surrounding area.

The council is considering creating a neighbourhood development plan (NDP) for Penryn, to give the public a say in future land use, and is asking residents to take the time to fill in a quick survey.

Councillor Dave Garwood, who chairs the neighbourhood plan working party, said: "Over the coming month the town council are asking the people of Penryn to tell us their priorities for the town going forward. The feedback we get will determine whether or not we proceed with producing a neighbourhood development plan.

"The future of Penryn is in the hands of its community, through this questionnaire and the potential plan that could follow. I hope that they will grasp this all too rare opportunity and make sure we have a great response."

The council aims to get paper questionnaires distributed by mid-August through the help of volunteers, and an online survey is already up and running on the Penryn Town Council website at penryntowncouncil.co.uk/neighbourhood_plan

Surveys are to be completed by Monday, September 7, and returned to Penryn Town Council offices or handed into the council's stall at Penryn Town Fair on August 29.

The results of the questionnaire will be published on the council website, newsletter, social media and will be available to view in the town council offices from Monday, September 28.

If there is clear support for an NDP, the council will set up a steering group to carry out more detailed consultations, and the results will also show what the main themes of the plan should be.

The council is looking for people who would like to be involved in the production of the NDP, in areas including project management, development planning, community engagement, marketing, funding, copywriting, report writing and graphic design.

If you would like to provide specialist input in these areas or help with delivering the questionnaires please contact the town council on 01326 373086.
