Falmouth Town Council's website was taken down over the bank holiday by hackers citing media censorship, torture, forced imprisonment, and war as part of their reasoning.

The official website is currently offline, replaced by a screen showing the badge of the Kosovo Liberation Army, the paramilitary group that fought against Serbian forces during the Kosovo War in the 1990s, and a youtube link to a song that was a failed candidate for the Kosovan national anthem.

Below this is a text that reads: "We are tired of all of you who call yourself the leaders of the people. We are tired of the dictatorships, media censorship, torture, forced imprisonment, wars and the instabilities. We are tired of being refugees and prisioners [sic] of their corrupt governments.

"The peoples are tired of your corrupt practices. Your corruption has reached beyond extensive with your stealing of humanity.

"We demand an end to the official corruption. Remember that you can fool some of the people all the time, and all the people some of the time but you cannot fool all the people all the time."

The hackers, a group apparently from Albania and calling themselves Nofawkx Al, targeted the site on Saturday, August 29.

The council is one of several to have been attacked that day, including a college in Liverpool, an escort agency in Birmingham and a parish council in Wales, although it is unclear how these are linked to Albanian nationalism or conflict in Kosovo.

Other previous victims include sex websites in Kyrgystan, a cycle store in the United States, and a German muay thai site.

Falmouth Town Council was unavailable for comment on Monday, although there is no suggestion that it has had any dealings with dictators or forced imprisonment.
