National Maritime Museum Cornwall is joining a number of popular heritage sites this September opening their doors or stores to the public, free of charge, as part of the national Heritage Open Days 2015. This year you are invited to go behind the scenes of the Museum’s Bartlett library.
Tucked away at the back of the Maritime Museum, the Bartlett library is a spellbinding research and literary haven. Its core collection of 19,000 books is a valuable maritime resource and possibly the largest maritime collection in the South West.
Come and meet the dedicated team of volunteers who run the library and explore the diverse collection of maritime reference books, periodicals and archive material which make up the collection.
Sarah Riddle, Collections Curator at the Maritime Museum says: “This is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to catch a glimpse of all the hard work that goes on behind the scenes at the Maritime Museum. Last year’s event, at our boat store, was hugely successful and we’re very much looking forward to revealing the academic side of the Museum during this year’s event.”
Tours should be booked in advance and are available from 10-12 September at 10.30am to 11.30am, 1.30pm - 2.30pm and 3.30pm - 4.30pm on all three days. To book your place, contact 01326 214546.
