The Lizard RNLI lifeboat was launched recently to recover a small craft that had been floating for some time off the Eddystone Lighthouse.

The lifeboat was sent to the sea off Bass Point with a volunteer crew of five to the small dory boat that was believed to be unoccupied and was found to be in a poor state.

Falmouth Coastguard had received a couple of reports from merchant vessels that had spotted the craft and was aware that it had been washed out to sea sometime ago, and asked the lifeboat to recover it to prevent any more reports of this marine debris being seen floating around the coast.

The lifeboat crew placed a line onto the boat and it was towed to Cadgwith Cove where it was placed ashore and eventually recovered to the public car park in the village.

The Lizard lifeboat station is currently actively recruiting for more volunteer members.

There are vacancies on the crew and shore crew, and if going to sea is not your pleasure, then the station is also looking for fundraising team members.

The station is looking for both casual fundraisers, who can help out occasionally, and committee members for those who have more time available, as well as shop volunteers and boat and station guides.

For more information about any of these vacancies telephone the lifeboat station 01326 290451 or email the station the-lizard@rnli.org.uk
