Grade Ruan Horticultural Society's annual autumn show took place in the Village Hall at the weekend, attracting around 650 exhibits from 102 entrants.

The society's David Endean said: "We had a good show with lots of colourful entries with some wonderful exhibits attracting exhibitors from all over West Cornwall."

The show was opened and trophies were presented by local Cornwall Councillor Carolyn Rule who was impressed by the standard of the entries and especially liked the children's exhibits, giving special mention to a vegetable sculpture of a rocket.

The honour of being named Best in Show went to Margaret Evans for her intricate cross stitch picture of the West Riding of Yorkshire. She was presented with her trophy by Cllr Rule.

Other prize winners were Clarence Thomas, who won most points in show with his vegetables and flowers, while Alec Foreman had the best exhibit in the vegetables with his three Kelsae onions, and Doug Stevens won the best in flowers with a vase of Alstromeria. Joy Bosustow won three trophies for her exhibits throughout many sections of the show.

"This year there has been a wonderful crop of apples and this was reflected on the show bench with a display which I believe to be our best for many years with lots of varied Cornish varieties," said David.

"We had 102 entrants with around 650 exhibits with a good turn out of public to view the show enjoy a cup of tea, slice of cake and a chat."
