The ladies of Mawnan WI were given the chance to channel their inner Naomi Campbell or Cara Delevingne

on Friday night as they took to the catwalk at their charity fashion show.

Twelve brave members and friends modelled this season's fashions from Truro shops Phase Eight and Vanilla. During the interval a glass of wine and canapes made by WI members were served and the raffle was drawn. There were some super prizes donated by local hotels and businesses.

The venue, Mawnan Memorial Hall, had been transformed by plants provided by B&Q, flamingos from Trebah Garden's summer trail and a carpeted catwalk donated by Absolute Canvas. Evie Payne sorted out the music.

By the end of the evening more than £700 had been raised which will be divided between two charities - the Cornwall Air Ambulance and the Children's Hospice South West.

The evening before, WI members were treated to a presentation from Holly of the Screech Owl Sanctuary who arrived with three owls they were able to stroke. The ladies learned all about owl's eyes and their incredible hearing as well as some less savoury details about their digestion.

The WI's next big event will be its third Christmas Gift Fair which will take place on Saturday, October 31, again at Mawnan Memorial Hall. Doors will open at 10am and there are many different stalls selling jewellery, woodworking, stained glass, bags, knitwear, cards, plants and much more including WI homemade cakes. Homemade soup and refreshments will available throughout the day.

The group's next meeting will be on November 12 at 7.30pm when Hattie Walker will demonstrate some of the products of The Pampered Chef. Visitors are most welcome.
