An invitation to get together for a chat over tea and cake with the added attraction of being able to pick up a bargain - all while raising money for a good cause - proved too good to pass up for many in Mabe last weekend.

The coffee and crafts morning was held at the Community Centre and had been organised by Anne Salome with the intention of raising some much welcomed cash for Dementia UK (Cornwall).

"The event was very well attended and there was a buzzing, happy atmosphere," said Anne. "The cake stall was well stocked and was replenished with kind donations throughout the morning. The bright, festive craft stalls raised nearly £600 alone. Bric-a-brac was popular and so was the book stall.

"Thanks to Peter, Jackie and Wendy we were kept well plied with coffee and tea. As always the raffles were very popular with all prizes generously donated by members of the community."

Lisa Dann from Dementia UK (Cornwall) was present throughout the morning to give advice and support. By the end of the day the "brilliant total" of £1,470 had been raised which was topped up by a luncheon during the summer organised by Marg Barnicoat, a nearly new clothes sale by June Goodman, and several generous donations including Mabe Garden Club and Mabe Carpet Bowls.

"Many thanks to all those who helped to make this a brilliant fund raising year in Mabe," said Anne.
