The competitive spirit was alive and well in Mawnan Smith on Shrove Tuesday as the ladies of the village WI held their annual pancake races.

The wet and blustery weather meant the fun had to be transferred indoors to the Memorial Hall, but this did not put people off from turning out to show off their flipping prowess.

Despite being organised by the WI, the racing was not restricted to the ladies with an open invitation for people to go along and join in. A number of men were keen to accept the challenge and try their hand at pancake tossing while running the length of the hall, with differing degrees of success.

Representing the younger generation were children from Mawnan Pre-School and pupils from the reception class at Mawnan Primary School, who all donned their chefs' hats to compete.
