The Falmouth restaurant owner who last year raised thousands of pounds following the devastating earthquakes in Nepal and then visited the country to help distribute aid, has been back on the fundraising trail.
Ram Sharma, known as Hem and the owner of Balti Curries, decided to mark the one year anniversary of the natural disaster by hosting a Thali lunch for members of the Falmouth and Penryn Lions Club and their guests.
By the end of the meal a total of £616 had been raised, with £35 of that coming from an auction and another £75 from a raffle. The money will be sent out to Nepal to be used in an area where some people are still suffering from the effects of the earthquakes.
"I would like to say thank you for to the Falmouth and Penryn lions for their support," said Hem, who last year with Jason Wilkinson took suitcases of medical supplies, such as bandages and antiseptic, to Nepal to hand out where needed. In addition they took thousands of pounds of cash which they used to buy corrugated tin to provide shelter for quake-hit villagers before the rainy season hit.
