Every dog has his day, and the pooches of Mawnan Smith proved that as they turned out on a wet July day for the village's fun dog show.

Pets and their owners braved the weather and gathered at Carwinion Playing Field and the MCA Hall to enjoy all things canine, with a series of fun dog shows, stall offering dog products and services, as well as plenty of fun for those with two legs.

The day was organised on behalf of the Last Chance Hotel rescue home, with some of the charity's dogs also attending the event.

Organiser Linda Beard said: "It went really well despite the calamitous start, with the rain which was a bit worrying. It all turned out really good, and the charity was really delighted.

"We had a lot of people really, considering the weather, and it cleared up later.

"The dog shows were really popular and we had good music and singing from Nigel Skews."

As well as providing a showcase for the charity, Linda was delighted when she found out that the show had raised £1,240 to support it's work.

She added: "The most important thing was it generated more recognition for the charity, because they want more people to know about them in this part of Cornwall. They managed to get one dog rehomed, and another has been home checked."

Linda also thanked her helpers, who she said were "very, very good," the "generous" people who gave donations, and local businesses who provided raffle prizes, as well as the parish council who let them use the field.

She added: "We left it all immaculate afterwards."
