Blue Badge holders in Cornwall may face delays in receiving their confirmation details for the council's new scheme, which was expected to come into effect from the end of July.

Cornwall Council said applications for its new free parking scheme had been higher than expected, but said anyone who had registered could now continue to park without their paperwork until the end of August.

A spokesperson for the council said: "Due to the high volume of applications for this scheme, people who were previously registered on our temporary scheme and who have applied for the new scheme may not receive their confirmation details before the end of July.

"We are working through the applications but, in recognition of the delay in some people receiving their permits - we have extended the period that applicants can continue to park without their formal notification, from July 31 to August 31 - provided they have applied and paid for the new scheme.

"We are doing our best to ensure that applicants receive confirmation before the end of August and want to thank everyone for their patience."
