Plunging from a plane isn't everybody's idea of a fun family outing, but that's what one mother and daughter team did in support of the Mermaid Centre in Truro.

Claire Linthwaite from Falmouth and her daughter Chloe were joined by Claire's brother Chris Littlejohn and her colleague Sarah Francis as they skydived to raise funds for the breast cancer treatment centre, which supported Claire's mum Carol Littlejohn after she was diagnosed with the disease.

Claire said: "It was pretty scary, when you jump out of the plane and are basically just falling. When that parachute opens it's amazing.

"Because we had so many people watching us as we came in to land it's amazing, like you're a celebrity.

"And it's amazing to know that we raised that amount for doing that."

Claire, who works at the Falmouth Health Centre, organised the skydive as a thank your for all the support they had given her mum. She said the aim had been to raise £2,000 and double the amount they had paid for the trip, but she was overjoyed when the total came to £5,034.70.

She said: They said they have quite a few donations go in, but it's usually pounds, not the amount we managed to raise.

"This is a place very close to my heart as they have helped my mum both physically and emotionally through her journey. The staff never fail to put a smile on her face, and I want to give back to them."

Upon receiving the team's sponsorship, consultant surgeon Iain Brown said: "This is such an incredible donation. It will go very far to help us explore new frontiers in preventing, diagnosing and treating breast cancer patient. We are truly grateful to Claire, Chloe, Sarah and Chris for their fundraising efforts and bravery."

The group added that they would like to thank everyone who helped them raise the money.
