A fun day tomorrow will celebrate the return of the Furry Youth Café in Helston.

This is due to reopen above Warren's Bakery in just under two weeks, on September 6, after a long period of closure.

For the launch night there will be smoothie making, between 7pm and 9pm.

It will then run between these times every Tuesday and Friday, open to anyone between the ages of 11 and 18 years, regardless of whether they live in Helston, Porthleven, the Lizard area or the wider villages.

It is particularly targeted at students attending Helston Community College or Mullion School.

The café, which originally opened in 2011 with Lottery funding, is free to visit and there will be specific activities as well as the opportunity to just relax.

Before it reopens, a fun day has been organised at Helston Football Club tomorrow (Wednesday), taking place between 1pm and 4pm.

It is a chance for anyone interesting in going to the café, as well as their parents and carers, to meet the team running it and see what is on offer.

There will be sports, face painting, dancing and cake decorating.

Cornwall Councillor Andrew Wallis said: "As one of the directors of the Furry Youth Café, I am really pleased we are able to reopen after what seemed like ages of being closed.

"We are also excited to be working with Penwith Community Development Trust to deliver the youth service in side the café. PCDT is a Cornish charity with the aim of reducing poverty, social isolation and support healthy living."

He added that for anyone wondering what was happening in Porthleven, he planned to put a proposal into the town council in September. More details on this will be available after the meeting on September 8.

Mr Wallis said he was aware transport was an issue for anyone in Porthleven wanting to go to the Helston café and added: "I am again working on something that could enable young people from Porthleven get to and from the café for free."
