Photos of Helston on Flora Day Eve as town decorates for big day

Shops, businesses and homes are all being decorated with the traditional greenery, bluebells and flags outside their shop buildings.

Members of the town are in high spirits and are happy that Flora Day is finally happening after a two-year break.

Flora Day stewards are also in attendance helping to decorate the buildings that are currently not in use. The stewards have been working together to make sure these buildings don’t miss out.

Craig Little, the new owner of The Seven Stars in Coinagehall Street, was preparing for the pub and distillery’s first Flora Day under his ownership.

As previously published in the Packet, Craig was hoping for the pub to be open by Flora Day – and thanks to the hard work of Craig and his team it will be.

There was a lot of laughter and happy faces in Helston this morning, including Rose, who is celebrating her third birthday today. She was in town with her mum Siobhan and her Peppa Pig drum, hoping to be able to join in with band tomorrow.

Although nearly all the shops and businesses are decorated with the greenery, one estate agents in town had a different idea of decoration.

Oliver’s Estate Agents at the top of Meneage Street used the artistry skills of Mike Prowse. Mike has done a beautiful sketch of the band and dancers on Flora Day with a swan – representing the swans at Helston Boating Lake.

Apart from most of the main buildings in the town being decorated, some have decided to decorate their homes.

Mel Toy, an avid fan of Flora Day has always decorated her flat window with Flora Day flags, something she still did when Flora Day was cancelled.

The leading Midday Dance set, Giles Clotworthy, Eileen Mcloughlin, Christian Johns and Kristine Furneaux visited Parc Eglos Primary School so they could help with the pupils at their final practice before tomorrow. Teachers and pupils at the school are also excited, with talk of the day being mentioned in classes.

The Packet will be streaming live feeds throughout the day, starting before the 7 o’clock dance, and ending after the 5 o’clock dance in the evening.
