It was the moment that everyone had been waiting for when, at 7am on the dot, the boom of the bass drum heralded the start of Helston Flora Day.
As people poured into town for the return of Helston's biggest - and most agree best - day of the year, accompanied by the peals of St Michael's Church bells, there was excitement in the air.
The event has not been held since 2019 and the time in between was not lost on anyone.
There were some faces missing, following two years of the pandemic, and Helston Flora Day Association, with the support of Helston Town Band, recognised all who are no longer with us, by playing the first three refrains of the Flora Dance at standstill in their memory. Few were able to keep a dry eye.
It was then over to Morning Dance leading set Michelle and Mark Skewes, Hayley Goodchild and Ross Yelland, to get the dancing underway to cheers and applause.
They will repeat their roles at 5pm today, for the Evening Dance, which follows a slightly shorter route.
