It has come to the attention of this Skipper that certain commenters on The Packet's website have made accusations that all I do is moan and criticise and, after my latest rant about the Newquay to Falmouth metro, wanted to know what I'd have done instead.

Well, let me assure you, I am no politician, and will tell you exactly what I'd have done with that £50 million.

Working at a local newspaper, I come across all kinds of community groups and CICs all looking to do their part and improve certain aspects of their towns and villages.

Most of the time, these groups and CICs are set up by local residents who had ideas on what they'd like to see improved upon or set up in their local area.

This Skipper would simply gather a comprehensive list of these local organisations and divide the money up between them.

I can think of no better way to 'Level Up' towns and villages across Cornwall than to fund the very residents who take it upon themselves to try and do exactly that.

Most of the time, these people have no help from external organisations and rely on grassroots fundraising and the generosity of other local people as a means of raising money.

So, the next time you feel the need to criticise someone for criticising something, maybe just donate to a local cause instead?
