The mother of a little boy who died from a life limiting illness has thanked those who braved the weather for the inaugural fundraiser for a charity set up in his name.
The mother of Jozef Stasiak kept her final promise to him by setting up a charity to create a lasting legacy for children with disabilities in school.
Jozef's Dream charity held its first fundraiser, a family fun day, on Sunday, September 17 at the Dracaena Centre in Falmouth.
Josef's mother Heidi from Carnon Downs thanked everyone who braved the weather on Sunday for the first event raising over £500.
"The grand total is is £534.99," she said. "We would like to thank red watch for bringing the fire engine out, and Tarquin from Tarqs Arc.
"And Asda, St Michaels Hotel andSpa, the maritime museum, the staff at The Works in Falmouth, and everyone who donated for the raffle. Harriet Jenkin for our T-shirts and all the volunteers who helped make it a success."
She says they are now look forward to the dog show organised by Cornish canine fun shows on Sunday, October 22 at Cornwall Riding Centre where all proceeds will be going to Jozefs Dream.
Jozef Stasiak from Carnon Downs died in December 2022 with hundreds of bikers escorting him to his final resting place as the 12-year-old was mad about bikes.
Before he died his mum Heidi promised that she would raise money to fund providing sensory equipment in schools so children like him can attend mainstream education.
Jozef was born with cerbral palsy and a number of other conditions that confined him to a wheelchair but that didn’t stop him from going to St Mary’s Catholic School in Falmouth his whole school life.
Jozef died on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 after a long stay in hospital. His funeral took place on Christmas Eve with hundreds of bikers escorting him to Budock Church.
"When Jozef was starting school I wanted him to attend mainstream education with his sister so I began fundraising to get any sensory equipment that would benefit him and the rest of his new school 'Jozef's dream of mainstream'," Heidi told the Packet earlier this month.
"I always promised Jozef that when I had a hole that needed to be filled I, and his teacher Sue Marshall, would set up his charity as a lasting legacy to help children like him and in doing so all children."
