A local specialist independent school has received a glowing Ofsted report.

Staff at Oak Tree School, based at Truro Business Park in Threemilestone near Truro, have celebrated a positive assessment that was carried out on January 31 and the results of which have now been published. 

It was praised for delivering tailored provision for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

The investigator also found that the school has an established curriculum, adapted to match individual starting points of pupils.

According to the report, the curriculum gives older pupils experience of the world of work, including bespoke work experience helping students follow their interests and potential.

It extends to provide appropriate careers advice and the building of independence skills.

Teachers at the school were praised for their range of experiences, specialisms and talents.

The staff's dedication to meet pupils' individual needs is further strengthened by their impressive qualifications.

This focus ensures a balanced, broad and appropriately adapted provision for each student's needs.

The strength of the relationship between staff and pupils was particularly noted.

Such relationships enable accurate assessments of student progress and ensure very well planned lessons.

Regular check-ins ensure parents are kept updated about their child's progression.

Staff have experience across early years to key stage 5, which bolsters the school's confidence in accepting younger and older students.

Ofsted also found that the school's commitment to pupil safety is front and centre with well-established procedures ensuring a calm environment.

Safeguarding leadership within the school is strong, reflecting a clear policy which meets statutory requirements.

Staff respond sensitively when extra help is needed, and pre-employment checks demonstrate stringent safe recruitment processes.

The school is continuing to expand its facilities with the refurbishment of a commercial building into classrooms, meeting rooms, sensory and therapy spaces, and office areas.

Outdoor spaces provide areas for physical education and personal development curriculum.

Overall, leaders work effectively with local authorities, demonstrating a shared vision to improve outcomes for their pupils, leading to requests to extend provision to key stage 1 and 5.

Oak Tree School caters for pupils with a range of needs, including social, emotional and mental health needs, specific and moderate learning difficulties, speech, language and communication needs, and autism.

Regarded as a specialist day school for young people aged seven to 16, the institution said it prides itself on providing individualised therapeutic support for pupils with significant needs.
