The popular Castle to Castle Swim returns this year raising funds for the RNLI.

The one-mile open water swim sees those taking part swim from Pendennis Point, below Pendennis Castle in Falmouth, across the River Fal and Carrick Roads to St Mawes Castle on the Roseland Peninsula.

The date for the 2024 Castle to Castle Swim is Sunday, June 30 between 12 noon and 4pm.

As a fundraising event there is a £30 registration fee and entrants are required to raise a minimum of £70 in sponsorship for the RNLI, although it is hoped that in the charity’s 200th anniversary year swimmers might be able to reach £200 – one pound for every year its volunteers have been raising lives.

The popular event is strictly limited to 500 swimmers and is open to anyone over the age of 14. Participants should be intermediate or experienced open water swimmers.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “The swim is an absolutely fantastic event, largely run by volunteers, without whom it wouldn’t be possible.

“It promises to be great fun with a fantastic atmosphere, so do come along and get involved.

“If swimming isn't your thing but you would still like to be involved, please get in touch as there are many volunteering opportunities available on the day.”

Anyone signing up must agree to the following terms and conditions: You must be at least 14 years of age on the day of the event to enter.

You will provide and wear your own wetsuit at the event. No swimmer will be allowed in the water without a wetsuit on. A swim-specific wetsuit is recommended, which will provide extra buoyancy and warmth.

You must be able to swim at least one mile in open water conditions.

You must attend the safety briefing before the start of the swim.

If the swim cannot take place due to unforeseen circumstances, such as in the event of extreme bad weather, the alternate date is Sunday, September 15 and all participants will be transferred automatically.

And for those wondering what happens to their clothes left the other side: bags with clothes and other essential items will be transported by road to the St Mawes side. At registration you will be given an ID band with your swim number to attach to your bag. You will be required to place the bag in the van at least one hour before the start of the swim.
