The Poly is set to launch a new programme of talks and events this spring called 'The Future Of Creativity'.

It explores the possible affects of social, environmental and technological developments on our lives and the planet.

The new programme is the brainchild of professor Alan Cummings, who is The Poly's new president.

He has a distinguished career which includes a tenure as pro-rector of the Royal College of Art, and a stint as both a teacher and research leader.

Mr Cummings anticipates the series will foster an enabling environment for innovative, inquisitive, and socially conscious individuals to discuss the future trajectories our world could take in the upcoming decades.

The introductory event will feature a brief lecture by Mr Cummings to set the tone for the evening.

The professor will then be participating in a collective conversation about the future alongside creative magnates from the Falmouth community.

Mr Cummings said: "The only way to get us out of the catastrophic mess we are making of our planet, and everything on it, is through our unique ability as a species to be creative and to apply that creativity in the real world.

"The trouble is, that’s what got us into this mess in the first place."

He later added: "I am old now.

"The future is not going to be my playground, but hopefully my grandchildren will be there.

"We need to spend more of our time, energy and intelligence preparing them for the damage we have done to it."

During the discussion, questions on how diverse fields foster creativity, how emergent technologies like AI might influence creativity, and the socio-economic impact of creative ventures in Falmouth and Cornwall will take centre-stage.

Anticipation builds as participants look forward to a vibrant evening of thought-provoking dialogue.

The Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society (The Poly) is a Falmouth-based charity, promoting engagement in the arts, sciences and Cornish history.

The Future of Creativity is scheduled to take place on May 7, beginning at 6.30pm.

Tickets, priced at £3 plus a £1 Poly Fund contribution, are available for booking online at thepoly.org or by telephoning the box office at 01326 319461.
