Camborne 29, Clifton 38

Camborne RFC conceded the double to Clifton after another thrilling high scoring encounter with the Bristol club at the Recreation Ground, writes Martin Symons.

With first use of the slope on a perfect afternoon for running rugby the visitors built up a deserved 24-12 half time lead.

After going behind early on to a converted try the Cherry & Whites hit back to level with an Alex Ducker dot down improved by full back Aaron Simmonds.

Clifton stretched their advantage to 17-7 with a brace of unconverted touchdowns before another try by left wing Ducker cut the deficit to only 5 points.

Almost immediately the visitors bagged their bonus point with a long range try sending them in to break with a healthy lead.

‘Town’ came out firing in the 2nd period but will reflect on a number of good attacking opportunities from line breaks by centre Josh Matavesi that went begging.

Dominating territory and possession the Cherry & Whites eventually forced Cliton into conceding a string of penalties leading to a quickfire brace of yellow cards.

Camborne duly took full advantage of their two extra players as tries from Connor Gilbert converted by Matavesi and right wing Harry Larkins levelled matters at 24-24 on the hour.

Crucially the home side then allowed the visitors a rare 2nd half attack which resulted in a well taken converted try.

Chasing the game the Cherry & Whites conceded again before late on centre Gilbert crashed over for a consolation score.
