The Falmouth Eagles Women XV held their first Allianz Inner Warrior Camp on Saturday, welcoming more than 20 local enthusiastic like minded women to a taster session, writes Gupta Singh.

All were willing to give rugby a try, and challenge themselves at the Falmouth Recreation Ground.

The camp is part of a national campaign by England Rugby to promote women’s rugby, and was organised by Falmouth Eagles Women to promote the core values of the sport: Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline, and Sportsmanship.

The camp aimed to provide local women with an unforgettable experience that would not only enhance their interest and skills on the field but also an opportunity to meet and make new friends.

As they gathered the Recreation Ground was filled with a vibrant atmosphere, filled with the sounds of laughter and camaraderie. Participants from various backgrounds and skill levels eagerly gathered, ready to embark on a fun afternoon of rugby.

Captain Lydia Hawkins said: “A huge thank you to all the amazing women who joined us for the rugby taster afternoon at Falmouth Rugby Club with the Eagles Women’s team!

"We had an incredible time, both on and off the field, and we sincerely hope you enjoyed it just as much as we did.

"Your enthusiasm and willingness to give rugby a try was truly inspiring. We are grateful for your presence and for embracing the sport with open arms.

"It was a pleasure to have you on the field, learning and playing alongside us.”

The clubs hope is that these taster sessions provided that first step into rugby and that those who attended will join the Eagles Women in growing the sport in Falmouth in this their inaugural season.

As the camp began, coach Lexie Williams emphasised the importance of teamwork. The participants were divided into teams and encouraged to work together, supporting and encouraging one another. Quickly realising that their success relied not only on individual talent but also on the collective effort of the entire squad.

The atmosphere at the two hour session was filled with pure enjoyment. The participants eagerly participated in engaging training sessions, skill challenges, and friendly match related activities. Laughter echoed across the field as they celebrated each other's accomplishments, heading to the clubhouse for a post camp social and well deserved refreshment.

Vice captain Emma Parkman said: “The Eagles Women team would be absolutely thrilled to see you all back for more! Whether you were a complete beginner or have some experience, our club is a welcoming and supportive environment for all.”

“Rugby is not just a sport, it's a community. We believe in fostering inclusivity, teamwork, and personal growth. Joining our team means becoming a part of something special, where lifelong friendships are formed and incredible memories are made… So, if you enjoyed the taster afternoon, or are keen to explore Falmouth Women’s Rugby further, we invite you to come and join us for regular training sessions from 18:30 on Thursday evenings. We can't wait to continue this journey together and watch you thrive on and off the field!” - Lexie Williams Women’s Coach.
