THE prestigious Falmouth Hotel Bowl was played over 36 holes at Falmouth Golf Club on Saturday.

Despite the forecast it turned out to be a nice day with some good scoring.

Steve Thomas was the deserving winner with an aggregate of 81 stableford points. He put himself in a strong position in the morning with a fine haul of 43 points including birdies at the seventh, 11th and 14th holes.

He could not quite repeat the performance in the afternoon, but his 38 points including birdies at the seventh and 17th proved good enough to win by three points from Paul Kneebone.

He had carded 36 in the morning almost caught the leader with a fine score of 42 in the afternoon with birdies at the second, third and 16th holes for an aggregate of 78.

Paul Collins also played well to total 78 (40 and 38) with birdies at the third, seventh and 11th in the morning followed by birdies at the 12th, 13th and 18th holes in the afternoon.

Unfortunately a pair of blanks at the 15th hole in both rounds proved costly.

The prizes for best morning and afternoon rounds with 41 apiece went to Roger Fairburn and Terry Philp respectively. The best gross aggregate was won by scratch player Mark Carter with a score of 146 (72 & 74). Ben Browning won nearest the pin and Steve Jones collected the prize for the longest drive.
