FALMOUTH road runners had 19 representatives taking part in this weekend’s half marathon at Truro. It was a gruelling course which appeared to have more uphills than down.

Falmouth were well represented across the field, with their quickest male runner being Ric Keefe in a respectable 14th place and a time of 1.25.44.

The first female was Jannine Kennedy storming in at 1.52.31 and 185th overall.

There was a huge mass of runners with 441 crossing the finishing line. The weather was kind with light winds and slightly overcast which assisted the runners in an already difficult task.

The course headed out from Lemon Quay and out across the old tram tracks at Newham.

At Calenick, three miles in, a monster of a hill really does sort the wheat from the chaff. The race headed out towards Trellissick estate and goes off-road for a while really changing the dynamics of the running. It then slowly winded its way around Playing Place and back to the finish where a huge crowd welcomed everyone home.

The prizes were good and each participant got a Skinner’s beer, a medal and best of all a pasty.

Although there were some great running efforts put in, a special mention must go to Laura Branwood who volunteered to pace young Nige around the course in a great display of sportsmanship.
