FEMALE golfer Katie Rule was one of 15 professional players to be invited to feature in the Ladies European Access Tour event.

Falmouth Golf Club member Rule went to Stoke-by-Nayland in Essex for the 54 hole competition which included 1997 Women’s US Open champion Alison Nicholas in the field.

It is the only LEAT event which comes over to England and alongside the invited players, other competitors were regulars on the European tour with talent from Australia and South America too.

Despite coming up against such strong opposition, Rule kept her cool in wet and windy conditions which made the par 72 course difficult to negotiate.

Playing off the men’s tees, the Falmouth player made it into the cut for the final day with her score of six over par after carding rounds of 76 and 74.

As the winds picked up on the last day, some unfortunate bounces for Rule made her day even tougher, leading to a final round of 81, putting her on 15 over at the end.

Giving the standard of the competition though, this was still a result Rule and her clubmates back in Cornwall were proud of.
