FALMOUTH Golf Club’s Rose Bailey is the newly elected Lady Captain’s Cornwall President, writes Keith Rashleigh.

She has been an active member of the club since 1981 and enjoyed a very successful year in 1995 as lady captain which included winning the Western Morning News Trophy and League Division One.

Bailey was also treasurer for six years and came into office in her latest role earlier this month at St. Mellion Golf Club and will serve a three year term.

She is only the second lady captain from Falmouth to be honoured in such a way the first being Jean Walters in 1991.

Elsewhere at the course, the Greenkeepers Texas Scramble with a 09-30 shotgun start which attracted a large entry in pleasant conditions on Saturday.

Played in teams of four with a ten per cent allowance of the handicap aggregate the scoring, as anticipated, was impressive.

Leading the way were the quartet of Martin Lawden, Dan Briers, Kieran Ashley and Harry Perry with a ten under par gross 62 including crucial birdies on each of the last four holes for a net 57.

Runners-up were Matthew Morrison, John Yeates, Ray Hudson and Pam Annear with a gross 65 for a net 58 while Third were David Potter, Richard Marsh, Rik Shaw and Barbara Brown.
