OFF the field it was a big day at the Hine Downing Oval on Saturday.

Falmouth Cricket Club launched their Crowdfunder campaign to raise £3,000 in order to renovate the club’s nets.

It coincided with an Open Day at the club with cream teas the order of the day.

On the field however it was visitors St Austell that provided the icing on the cake, with a convincing win by 133 runs.

With leaders Werrington going down to a narrow two wicket defeat at Truro, in a low scoring game, it enabled St Austell to take over at the summit.

The visitors won the toss and the Bone brothers, Mike and Gary, got them off to a good start adding 62 before Glyn Furnival got rid of Gary for 19.

He followed up by trapping Taylor Williams, without scoring, and had Hugh Parkinson caught by Will Fortescue at 74-3.

Bone went on to make 57 however and with Matt Ellison getting 37, in a fourth wicket stand of 54, the visitors were on their way to a useful total.

Callum Gilbert’s 21 helped ensure maximum batting points while Furnival returned figures of three for 22 from his 11 overs.

Craig Mouatt took four for 31 and Antony Angove the last two wickets at a cost of 24 runs, from 10.3 overs as St Austell were all out in the penultimate over for 205.

Falmouth suffered an early set back when Guy Leathley was caught behind off Calum Wilson for a single.

It soon got a whole lot worse as Kyle Van Rooyen trapped Callum Whittaker in front.

Angove was bowled by Wilson for 12 and then Van Rooyen picked up the big scalp of Christian Purchase for a duck, putting the home side on 18-4 and in trouble.

Stefan Churcher was lbw to Wilson at 30-5 before Harry Roberts, 11, and Mouatt added 15 before three wickets fell on the same score.

It became 55-9 before last man Furnival top scored with 14 not out.

Wilson took five for 33 from 12 overs and Van Rooyen three for 20.
