FALMOUTH and Penryn ABC held their first show of the season on Saturday with a packed house at the

Dracaena Centre to see a host of local lads in action against boxers from as far afield as Poole in Dorset.

Twelve bouts took place, with six boxers representing Falmouth and Penryn in action.

First of the local lads in action was Lewis Rollason, who faced the more experienced Keegan Griffiths, from Priorswood ABC in Taunton. The Priorswood boxer took full advantage of a cautious

start from Rollason, using his experience to score points from early on. A solid shot in the second round, which brought a standing eight count for Rollason, seemed to wake the Falmouth boxer, but by this stage in the bout the points gap was too big to overcome, as Griffiths used his feet to keep away from Rollason's efforts to get back on level terms, earning himself a unanimous points victory.

Joe True faced Danny Allen, of St Ives ABC, in a tough battle. True started well, but Allen's speed and strength showed through and the referee stopped the contest late in the third round.

Ben Cotterill made his debut against newcomer Bradley Dunn, of St Ives, in an all action contest that saw both boxers going full tilt at each other, both forcing standing counts on the other from the referee early on.

The footwork of Dunn was put to good use in the second round, with him slipping and turning attacks from Cotterill into successful counters of his own, creating a further standing count, before the referee stopped the contest in favour of the St Ives man.

Tom Temp gave a fantastic, albeit short, demonstration of fast, accurate combinations in the quickest contest of the night. From the opening bell, Temp pressed his opponent, Adam Trace, of Tamar ABC, forcing him into his corner with a barrage of body shots, followed by a right hook to the chin, which dropped Trace to the canvass for an eight count.

Moments later, a combination of body shots, finished with a textbook left hook to the point of the chin dropped Trace again, this time leaving him unable to recover before being counted out winning by a K.O.1, with less than a minute on the clock.

Temp’s sparring partner, Calum Rollo, made his debut against St Austell’s Van Leendert, boxing sensibly and using his height and reach to keep out of trouble and earn a unanimous points victory over three rounds.

The final bout of the night was between Falmouth’s Chris Sloggett and Camborne’s Charlie Scott, a former National Junior ABA finalist. Scott’s experience showed, as he started strongly, slipping Sloggett’s punches to land powerful combinations, but Sloggett stuck doggedly to the task in hand and landed several solid punches of his own, which

rocked the experienced Camborne man. A flurry of punches mid way through the second round forced a standing count

on Sloggett, but the Falmouth man kept pressing Scott to the delight of the crowd, to take the contest to the final bell of the third round, where the judges awarded Scott a well deserved points win.

Famous Falmouth old boy, former professional boxer and coach, Salvatore Nuciforo presented Tom Temp with a trophy for being judged to be the best Falmouth boxer on the night, following his win.
