Helston 30, Cornwall Clubs' XV 10

HELSTON said farewell in grand style to two cornerstones of the club with this comfortable season-ending victory on Saturday.

LJ Collick and Ross Williams both played their last game for the Chiefs, with Williams marking the occasion with two tries and the man-of-the-match award as the hosts produced a superb display.

There were also two tries from the impressive Lee Gaskell and further touchdowns from Calvin Warwick and Chris Ward, setting up a great finale to the season just seven days after Helston avoided relegation from Cornwall 1 on the final day.

They led 15-5 at the break and that score was mirrored in the second half, with two of Helston's conversion attempts coming back off the post as the respective kickers struggled to find their range on a blustery day.

Helston coach Niall Devenish said: "It was a lovely occasion, watched by a good crowd who enjoyed some fantastic running rugby.

"The game was played in a great spirit and we produced our best performance of the season against a select side from Cornwall 1 and Cornwall 2. Ross ran some beautiful lines and LJ was quick to the ruck and had the ball fizzing to get us really bubbling.

"It was a great way for them to finish and also marked our 50th anniversary as a club, as well as the tenth anniversary of the clubhouse opening, which has been a great asset to us."
