HELSTON Athletic's lethal marksman Mark Goldsworthy has joined SWPL Premier giants St Austell this week.

Goldsworthy, who has just celebrated his 25th birthday, bagged 40 goals for the Kellaway Park side last season and will reacquaint himself with former strike partner Liam Eddy at Poltair Park.

He told Packet Sport: "The fact that St Austell are going to be challenging for every honour convinced me to join them. My first game for them will be in the FA Cup and hopefully I can help them have another good run in the FA Vase again.

"I don't think anyone can question my loyalty to Helston - I have played for them for many years and now it's time to think about myself. I'd love to get my hands on the league trophy and Senior Cup."

Goldsworthy will meet his new team mates when training begins on June 21, although he will miss some of pre-season to holiday in France.

"They've already welcomed to me into the WhatsApp group chat and I've always got on well with their players, so it'll be a smooth transition."

Eddy, who still lives in Helston, scored 35 league goals last year, with Goldsworthy one behind on 34. Given their track record as a partnership, initially for Wendron Youth and latterly Helston, it could be a mouthwatering prospect for the St Austell fans next season.

With news that Andrew Neale - who notched an incredible 49 league goals for Bodmin Town - signing for Truro City, the Saints can boast two of the hottest attacking properties in the division.

It leaves Blues boss Sid Taylor with a huge hole to fill, which has been widened by the fact that another Helston striker, Phil Cattran, has decided to take a year out of football after suffering several serious injuries last season.
