CAMBORNE went down to defeat on their first-ever trip to third-placed Hinckley after the home side pulled decisively clear in the second quarter of the opening period.

The Cherry and Whites included their new signing from Penryn, scrum-half Will Tanswell, in the starting line-up and the youngster gave a good performance in his first taste of National League rugby.

‘Town’ went behind to an early penalty but hit back determinedly to take the lead with the opening try of the game dotted down by flanker Chris Fuca from a close-range forward drive.

After an even period of play the home side crucially hit a 10-minute purple patch before the interval running in three converted scores to lead 24-5 at the break.

The second period was much more evenly contested on a heavy pitch with each team bagging a brace of tries.

Camborne’s hooker Ben Priddey was once again in pole position to steer a lineout catch and drive over in the corner for his 19th try of the season.

Going into the closing stages some slick handling by the visitors created an opportunity for wing Jack Davis to cut inside the defence and touch down.

Late on the Cherry & Whites were denied a try bonus point when replacement Cameron Bone was adjudged in touch as he crossed at the corner flag.

Camborne will look to bounce back this weekend when they attempt to complete the double over bottom side Dudley Kingswinford at the Recreation Ground.

Final score: Hinckley 36 - 15 Camborne
