Eagles 2XV 20 v Redruth Albany 0

In challenging conditions on a wet and muddy Tregenver pitch, the Eagles 2XV hosted Redruth Albany in a Counties 3 Tribute Cornwall league fixture, writes Gupta Singh.

The Eagles made a strong start, dominating play and territory right from the beginning. Center duo Tug Wilson and Bryn Owen showcased their prowess with powerful runs, breaching Albany's defense.

The opening points came in the form of a lofted 40 metre penalty kick from Ethan Williams, extending the Eagles' lead to 3-0 after just 5 minutes.

Continuing their momentum, the Eagles 2XV capitalised on their advantage with a well-executed cross-field kick from captain Tug Wilson to Dylan Statham, who scored the first try of the match. Williams added the extras, bringing the score to 10-0.

Redruth Albany who arrived with the bare minimum of 15 to fulfil this fixture, faced a string of injuries, prompting the Eagles to provide replacements and maintain the flow of the game.

Ethan Williams showcased his kicking prowess once again, adding another three points with a penalty kick in the 22nd minute.

Despite the rain pouring down, the Eagles continued their attacking display, now opting for quick tap penalties to advance up the field. Oscar Gay's impressive thirty meter run set up Dylan Statham for his second try, converted by Williams, extending the lead to 20-0 by the 28th minute.

In a surprising turn of events, the referee decided to call off the game, much to the bewilderment of both teams who were keen to continue. Safety concerns due to Albany's mounting injuries likely influenced the decision, or too much hair gel running down the faces of the back division, much to the forwards' dismay.

The Cornwall RFU have since awarded four points to the home team and result stands. The next home game is this Sunday, February 25 when the mighty Eagles Women take on Plymouth Uni at home with a 2pm kick off. All the six nations will be shown this weekend live in the clubhouse.
